There’s actually no such thing as problematic skin… Skin issues arise because we disrupt its ecosystem, and thereby its functioning! The more we protect the ecosystem of the skin (which is its barrier) and the ‘good bacteria’ on its surface, the healthier and problem-free skin we will have.
This is why natural oils are becoming important and increasingly popular in skin cleansing, especially if you have sensitive or issue prone skin. Unlike other cleansers, these oils protect the skin’s natural oil balance, its barrier, and the ‘good’ bacteria on it, provide deep cleansing by opening pores, and while doing so, they also soothe and nourish the skin.
If you have oily and acne-prone skin, the idea of using oil as a cleanser and moisturizer might initially seem scary. However, this is based on the principle of ‘like dissolves like’ in chemistry. That is, oil dissolves the excess sebum accumulated on the skin, opens clogged pores, and deeply cleanses dead skin and makeup.
One of the best natural oils you can choose as both a cleanser and moisturiser is Jojoba oil (which I also use). The most important feature that distinguishes Jojoba oil from other oils is that its molecular structure is almost identical to sebum.
Thanks to this structure, it mimics sebum and therefore is not recognized as a foreign substance by the skin, which then doesn’t panic, overproduce oil, or react. Since the skin’s oil balance is not disrupted, it becomes less dry and flaky or doesn’t overproduce
oil leading to acne.
Jojoba oil, with its anti-inflammatory properties, soothes existing inflammation on the skin, moisturizes without clogging pores, and prevents acne formation. It contains natural forms of Vitamin E. Vitamin E acts as an antioxidant on the skin and helps combat oxidative stress caused by dirt and toxins that the skin is exposed to.
Another difference of Jojoba oil is that it’s actually a wax at the molecular level, not an oil. While it’s absorbed by the skin in its oil form, being a wax also creates a soothing seal on the skin surface.
Of course, if you have cystic acne or are under treatment for your skin, it’s beneficial to consult your doctor. Otherwise, it’s advantageous to add this wonderful oil to your beauty routine as both a cleanser and moisturiser, and you will immediately feel the
difference in your skin with regular use.
As I always say, it’s beneficial to buy good quality pure jojoba oil from a clean brand. You can find the brands I prefer and recommend in the products section!
